What happens when you mix a packed house, a dash of elemental magic, a dramatic villain, and a group of incredibly talented children? You get a night of pure theatrical brilliance that our community won't soon forget! On April 20th, Theatre@Agora presented its Annual Children’s Play, Stone Soup. While we all walked into the theater expecting a lovely evening supporting our local youth, the kids had a massive surprise in store for us by completely blowing everyone away. From the very first line to the thunderous applause at the curtain call, the energy in the room was electric, defined by standout moments of laughter, immense pride, and a powerful message that resonated with everyone in the audience.

We all know the traditional story of Stone Soup, but this spectacular adaptation written and directed by Nandini Handique took the narrative to soaring new heights. By introducing elemental characters like Nazli and Saisha as the Fairies, Sasha as Petra the Fishergirl, Vanya as Lucy the Blacksmith, Dia as Emily the Baker, Amaya as Ruby the Florist, and Arihan as Tom the Farmer, the play blossomed into something deeply magical. The heart of the conflict came alive with the introduction of the Twins Poshika as Sarah the Fire-Girl and Atharv as Jack the Snow-Boy alongside the imposing presence of Darken, brought to life with striking intensity by Chintu. Through their journeys, this adaptation beautifully wove a modern lesson into the classic fable about the power of teamwork in overcoming our deepest differences. Watching the children navigate these complex themes with such nuance and maturity was nothing short of inspiring.

A production like this truly takes a village, and the world on stage was flawlessly realized by a brilliant creative team. The vibrant characters were grounded in beautiful storytelling archetypes thanks to the spectacular Art Direction and Costumes by Arundhati Boruah. Bringing those characters to life visually fell to Krishna Boro, whose incredible Make-up and Styling gave the play its professional, immersive edge, especially with the dramatic, contrasting look for Darken. To pull it all together right before the curtain rose, Kasvi Sonkorison meticulously assisted the kids with their hair styling to ensure everyone looked absolutely stage-ready.

When the final bow arrived, there wasn't a dry eye or a quiet hand in the house, marking a profoundly proud moment for everyone involved. We want to extend our deepest, most sincere gratitude to the wonderful parents for their endless dedication, the chaotic schedules, and for getting the kids to rehearsals on time, as your support is the true backbone of this show. We also thank our incredible community for filling every single seat in the house, because your laughter, applause, and energy gave the children the perfect environment to shine. Finally, we owe an immense debt of gratitude to Radhika Goswami, the director of AGORA - thespace, who helped whole-heartedly during the intense pre-production of Stone Soup. We also extend a huge thank you to Vedika Goswami, who lent her invaluable help and assistance during the pre-production phase with the set design and props, helping build the physical world the children explored. Thank you to the entire AGORA team for conducting this Children's Play every single year and training these young actors. Your dedication to fostering their confidence and giving them a platform to discover their creative voices is an invaluable gift to our community. Stone Soup reminded us that when we bring our individual gifts to the table no matter how different we are, we can create something truly nourishing for the soul. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew, and we are already counting down the days until next year's production.
