Roots Routes

On April 26th, we gathered to celebrate seven beautiful years of Agora and to welcome back our highly anticipated Annual Children's Play. What started as a simple vision has officially grown into a warm, vibrant community. This anniversary night was the perfect reflection of that journey, bringing together art, family, and shared memories under one roof.

The main highlight of the evening was the presentation of an original play titled "Roots Routes". Written by Nandini Handique, the story focused heavily on nostalgia. It transported the entire room back to the simpler times of the 1980s. The performance opened with a gentle preface, showing a grandmother sitting down with her grandchildren to pass forward family history by telling stories about herself and her cousins.

Bringing this vintage world to life required a massive collaborative effort from a dedicated creative team. Radhika Goswami guided the project as the producer and also meticulously designed the stage sets to mimic the look of the 80s. Nandini Handique directed the children's performances, with Nikumoni Sarmah providing support as the assistant director. Garima Sharma handled the detailed makeup and styling to match the era, while Pratik Adhikari shaped the atmosphere with sound design. Documenting every single moment of this journey, Chintu Nick stayed behind the lens to capture behind-the-scenes throughout play.

The entire production thrived on community support. The parents of our young actors stepped in to generously provide all of the authentic costumes for the stage, as well as the delicious food shared during the event. The audience were mostly these proud parents, and they had an absolute blast watching their children perform. The nostalgic themes on stage resonated deeply with everyone in the crowd, bridging different generations through plenty of laughter and sweet memories.

The excitement continued even after the final curtains closed. The Agora Team hosted an exclusive short film showcase, screening a special project for a live audience for the very first time. The memorable night wrapped up perfectly with a packed room of students, parents, and team members gathering around the tables to cut the anniversary cakes and celebrate the milestone together. We are incredibly grateful to the parents who trust us, the creative team who poured their hearts into the show, and the amazing students who inspire us every single day. Here’s to the beautiful memories we have made so far, and to many more yet to come.
