Priyanka Sohoria is a writer and director from Northeast India — a place that has shaped the way she sees the world.

She grew up surrounded by its landscapes, its cultures, its people, and the quiet stories that exist in everyday life. Somewhere along the way, she developed a deep belief in something simple: that every person has a story worth understanding, and that empathy can change the way we see one another.

She began her filmmaking journey in 2016, while she was still studying Chemistry. She had no formal background in filmmaking. But she had a habit of observing- people, places, behaviour, emotions. She started writing. She picked up a camera. She began making films.

And then she learned filmmaking the way she believed in it most- by doing it. She assisted directors. She worked with actors and learned acting herself, because she wanted to understand what an actor experiences on the other side of the camera. She worked with editing, framing, composition, production and storytelling. Every role taught her something about the larger language of cinema.

In 2020, she co-founded EKODA Productions, a storytelling studio that began with a simple purpose: to tell stories through images.

Over the last six years, that studio has grown into a production house working across advertising, music videos, documentaries, short films, wedding films and fashion films. She has delivered more than 20 films for small and medium enterprises, along with government projects, and has written, directed and produced more than 40 music videos. But for her, filmmaking has never been only about the number of projects.

Her independent work has also found its audience and recognition. Her short film, as a writer-director, won Best Film at the Kolkata International Short Film Festival and went on to cross two million organic views on YouTube. One of her documentaries has received more than 11 national and international awards.

Alongside filmmaking, she built “Cineminds”—an initiative through which she works with aspiring actors and storytellers, teaching acting, screenwriting and the fundamentals of filmmaking. The initiative extends beyond professional spaces into schools, colleges and rural communities, because she believes storytelling should not belong only to those who already have access to the industry. It should belong to everyone.

Today, she continues to work as a writer-director and creative professional across independent and commercial cinema. She has worked in the Mumbai film industry as a creative director and has written and directed films for brands such as Asian Paints. From a Chemistry classroom to a camera, from observing people to telling their stories, and from making her first short films to building a production house—her journey has always been driven by the same instinct: to look a little closer, to understand a little deeper, and to turn what she sees into a story.
