ABOUT THIS ARTICLE
Theater is a place where magic happens, especially when you mix eager students with the famous plays of William Shakespeare. In July 2022, a cultural space called AGORA hosted a special two-week summer drama workshop named "The Bard's Stage." From July 10 to July 22, a dedicated group of students including Bhumika Jain, Raina, Kavin, Kanishah Kaifi Mazid, and Chintu Nick came together to learn the basics of acting and theater.

To get ready for the stage, the students had to practice many different skills every day. Radhika Goswami, the director of AGORA, led the workshop daily and focused on directing the final experimental play about Shakespeare's characters. Nandini Handique took on a major role in the training, teaching the students physical movement, character building and theater theory, while also helping them understand the history of acting, stage positioning, and how to connect their minds and bodies while performing.
As the days went on, other teachers helped the students polish their skills. Indrani Das trained them on how to use their voices clearly on stage, while Kasvi Sonkorison taught them improvisation to help them think fast on their feet. Shaheen Nasreen also worked hard as assistants to keep everything running smoothly every day.
Everything came together on the final day, July 22, 2022. Before the students went out to perform, AGORA’s project assistant, Arundhati Boruah, took care of the theatrical make-up to transform them into their characters.
